Using the Discus discussion forum

How to get started with the AM8267 discussion pages.

Logging in for the first time

Each student and lecturer on the course will have been given a username on the discussion server which will be the same as the username on the university server.

Initially your password will be the same as the username, so the first think you should do is change your password!

• Go to the discussion group web page. (Clicking this link will open a new browser window.)
• Click the Utilities > Edit Profile link on the left of the screen. This should be the next-to-bottom link.
• Enter your username (same as your university username) in both the Username: and Password: boxes and click the Log In button.
• Fill in the Information About You section with your full name and EMail address. Click the Save this information button.
• It is probably a good idea for you to receive any postings related to the course by EMail as well, so click the AM8267 - Structural Biology Module (3/AM/8V) button under E-mail Notification and click the Save this information button.
• Now select a new password and enter it into the New Password: and Verify New Password: boxes. Note! Your password may only include letters and numbers. Click the Save this information button.

Using the discussion board

You are now ready to start using the discussion board.

• Click Discussion > Topics on the left of the browser window (this should be the topmost link), to return to the list of discussion groups.
• Click the AM8267 - Structural Biology Module (3/AM/8V) link on right hand panel of the browser.
• You can now read the topics which have been discussed so far or contribute to a discussion by clicking on one of the topics. You can create a new topic by clicking the Create New Conversation button.
