About RUBIC...

Bioinformatics is a cross-disciplinary subject covering aspects ranging from protein structure analysis through protein and DNA sequence analysis to evolution and phylogeny. As such, people from Animal and Microbial Sciences, Plant Sciences, Chemistry, Applied Statistics and Computing are all involved. We also include structural biologists who are working on experimental determination of biological structures and their analysis.

The aim of RUBiC is for people in the different departments to get to know eachother and learn from eachother. We wish to promote Bioinformatics at Reading providing a central web server with links to individual's pages as well as providing software and services which we choose to make available over the web from a central point.

Our first meeting was held on Tuesday 15th February 2000 and consisted of summaries from all those who could be there of their research interests

We plan to continue with monthly meetings along three theme groups:

Many people's interests will span more than one of these groups. We will cycle around the themes with a presentation in each area each month. These may be research presentations, educational presentations or external speakers.
